Community campaigners celebrate five years frack free in Kirklees
This Saturday 21st May 2016 local campaigners marked five years of the UK being free of fracking with a celebratory get-together and action in Huddersfield. The campaigners celebrated with a get-together, a ‘Frack Free’ cake and petitioning in St George’s Square.
The event is part of a national day of action, with groups across the country throwing parties to celebrate their success and calling on the Government to keep the UK frack-free.
Chayley Collis from Huddersfield Friends of the Earth said: “Today we are celebrating our success – and the success of local campaigners across the country – who together have stopped the government in their tracks in their attempt to go ‘”all out” for fracking.”
Jeff Rice from Huddersfield Greenpeace added “We know that this achievement means the Government wants to take away our right to make local decisions, but our movement is united in our firm view that fracking must not be forced on any community. With crucial decisions being made in Ryedale and Lancashire, our message is clear: we will not stop campaigning until every community is free from the threat of fracking”.
