Huddersfield Friends of the Earth General Election 2024 candidate survey
Please contact candidates in your constituency asking them to complete the survey, asking the following questions:
1. The UK is not on track to meet its 2030 pledge and carbon budgets. Will you support Friends of the Earth’s campaign for a new climate plan that meets our climate targets while sharing the costs and benefits fairly?
2. More than 2 years on from the start of the energy crisis, millions of people are still struggling to afford to heat their homes and the health impacts of cold, damp homes are costing the NHS tens of billions of pounds. Investing in insulation and energy efficiency would create green jobs, bring down our energy bills and cut emissions. Will you sign the United for Warm Homes pledge and commit to play your part to tackle this crisis?
3. Do you support the parliamentary Climate and Nature Bill?
4. Do you support an end to fossil fuel investments by the West Yorkshire Pension Fund?
5. Do you support an end to the Rosebank Oilfield?

We are at a pivotal moment in history. The world is warming, the ice caps are melting, and sea levels are rising, threatening global cities and our very way of life. Here in Yorkshire, we have witnessed the devastating impact of climate change first-hand. The River Calder, flowing near Ossett and Denby Dale, has flooded time and time again, bringing destruction to our homes and our community. This is a stark reminder that time is ticking, and we must act now. But amid these challenges, there is hope. There is a path forward, and it is green. Our campaign is built on the principles of sustainability, justice, and resilience. We believe in a future where our energy comes from renewable sources, where our transportation is clean and efficient, and where our food is grown locally and sustainably. We envision a society where everyone has access to green spaces, where our air and water are clean, and where our economy thrives without sacrificing our environment. This is not a distant dream. It is within our reach. Together, we can make it a reality.
