Huddersfield Friends of the Earth has just launched a Climate Action Pledge for local election candidates to sign to help raise climate and environmental issues up the agenda of the forthcoming Kirklees local elections in May 2022.

The campaign group is asking candidates in the Kirklees council elections to sign up to the following pledge:
“If elected I pledge to play my part in the urgent development and implementation of an ambitious Kirklees Climate Action Plan that tackles the climate and nature emergencies.
As part of this, I pledge my opposition to new large-scale road expansion within Kirklees and will lend my support for calls for the West Yorkshire Pension Fund to divest from fossil fuels.”
Over the next few weeks, Huddersfield Friends of the Earth volunteers will be making strenuous efforts to contact the main local parties to get support for the Pledge. The results will be shared on social media, in teh local press, and on our website ahead of the local elections.
